CURRICULUM VITAE OF IOANNIS  I. KARAVOKIRIS PRESIDENT OF THE COURT OF AUDIT

He was born in Solomo of Korinthia in 1947. He  is graduate of  the Law School  of  the  University  of  Athens  a nd  of  the  Department  of  Public  Law  and Political  Science  of  the  same  University. In  1974  he  was  called  to  the  Bar  of Athens  and  in  1975  he  was  appointe d  as  Judge  of  the  civil  and  penal jurisdiction. He served, succe ssively, in the following C ourts of First Instance: of  Pireus,  as  Assistant    judge,  of  Kipa rissia,  Nauplio  and  At hens  as  Judge  of First Instance, of Preveza and Athens as President of First Instance Judges and, after that, in the Court of Ap peal of Athens as judge of appeal. In 1999, he was appointed  as  Judge-  Counse llor  of  the  Court  of  Audit,  and  in  2003  he  was promoted  to  Vice  –  President  of  the  Court of  Audit.  He  has  already  a  total  of 35 years of service in the judiciary.

In 1994 he was elected by the  Plenum of th e judges of the Court of First Instance of Athens, the biggest court of th e country, as its  first  administrative superior. He served this institution for tw o years, displaying  a lot of initiatives (an  Office    of  Research  and  Case-law became  operative,  which  realized    a series of scientific meetings in the amph itheatre of the Court of First Instance, a health center was set up in th e premises of the Court in order to provide first- aid  to  the  personnel,  to  the  Barristers  a nd  to  the  citizens  coming  to  the  Court, the computerization of services started, the payment of the personnel via bank accounts  began    and  A.T.Ms  were  insta lled)  and  keeping  excellent  relations with his colleagues Judges, the Secretarie s of the Court, the Barristers and the citizens.

During his career until now, a lot of his decisions were published in the daily   and   law   reviews   with   positive   co mments.   He   participated   in   the legislation  advisory  Committee  of  the  Ministry  of  Justice,  in  the  Central Committee  of  the  Codification  of  Legi slation  (KEK),  as  well  as  in  many conferences  of  scientific  interest,  as rapporteur,  in  Greece  and  abroad.  He attended,  by  invitation  of  the  Greek  ju dge  and  Advocate  General  of  the  Court of  Justice  of  the  European  Union,  inte rnational  trials.  He  has  been,  at  the proposal of the Greek Govern ment, member of the club of Arbitrators  of  the International Center for Settlement of In vestment Disputes of the U.N. and he is full member of the Societ y of Judicial Studies. He is elected, for a series of years, as member of the Board and today is Vice - Presid ent of the ‘Society of Greek  Judges  for  the  Democracy  and  th e  rights’  which  is  member  of  the European   Union   of   Judges   (MEDL). During   the   years   1997-2002,   after decision of the Secretary of the Treasury , pursuant to a relative condition of the will  of  Evangelos  and  Konsta ntinos  Zappas,  he  served, parallel  to  his  judicial obligations,  as  President  of  the  Board  of  «Olympia  and  Bequests  Committee» which was responsible  for the manageme nt of the Zappion Ma nsion  and of the property of the Zappa’s bequest in general.

He participates in a Parliame nt’s Committee who controls  the finances of the political parties and the  provenan ce of the property  of deputies. He  speaks  English.  He  is  the  auth or  of  the  following  scientific  studies  and papers, many of which have been publishe d in the daily press and law reviews:

In 1971 he was awarded a prize by the European League for the number 1 aforementioned study, and in 1977 the prize for laureates in Public Law by the  M.  Stassinopoulos  Foundation.  In  1995  he  was  proclaimed  honorary member of Interbalkan Anti - Drugs Leag ue for his services in the field of prevention  and  fight  against  the  diffusion of drugs. He is married to the retired  literature  professor  –  gymnas ium    principal      Zoe  Dendrinelli  – Karavokiri,  he is father of tw o children and lives in Athens.
